The Verneuil property, consisting of 44 claims, is located in Verneuil Township in the Abitibi area of Quebec. Work carried out by Freewest Resources Inc and the Company in a series of extensive exploration on the property in 1991 to 1995 resulted in the discovery of several gold-bearing shear zones. These programs consisted of prospecting, geophysics, trenching and diamond drilling. Six mineralized zones were uncovered by trenching and with several significant gold values. A follow-up diamond drill program consisting of 35 holes intersected the Toussaint Shear Zone. Some of the most significant gold intersections are : 10.6 g/t Au over 4.9 m; 4.2 g/t over 2.5 m; 5.7 g/t Au over 4.6 m; 11.9 g/t Au over 4.2 m; 12.6 g/t Au over 1 m; 5.2 g/t Au over 4.6 m; and 20.2 g/t Au over 2.6 m.
The property laid dormant until Freewest was acquired by Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. in early 2010 who subsequently sold Freewest’s original 70% interest in the property to Viking Gold Exploration who as operator, commenced work on the property in June, 2011. This program included 128 m of line cutting, a detailed magnetometer survey over the original Toussaint-Midrim showings area, an Induced Polarization (IP) survey over the entire main property grid, channel sampling, and a 500m diamond drilling program distributed between five shallow holes over the Toussaint Shear Zone. A subsequent 4500 meter-drill program was completed in late November, 2011. The objective of the program was to further test the extensions of the Toussaint Shear Zone and new targets defined by the IP survey in different parts of the Verneuil property. Golden Tag, who retains the remaining 30% interest in the property has signed a joint venture agreement with Viking. Drill results from the fall program are expected sometime in January, 2012.
